Who's the pet? You or your cat or dog?
Your animal friend might just help you lead a healthier life, says the Mayo Clinic Health Letter.
"Dogs need regular walks _which gets you out walking, too," the publication said. "On the other hand, a companion pet may be able to sense your moods and seek you out when you need some care, offering a warm nuzzle or, in the case of a cat, simpling resting in your lap and purring."
The newsletter cited several studies suggesting that pets can help buffer how people react to stress, with lowered heart rates and blood pressure levels, as well as other studies which found that senior citizens or AIDS patients who own pets are less likely to be depressed.
