Renter to owner: the burden shifts
Now that you own a home, the responsibilities once attributed to your landlord are all yours. Remember to:
• Install working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
• Make sure a fire extinguisher is accessible in the kitchen.
• Have an electrician check your wiring.
And if you have children, you’ll need to safety-proof.
• Put in window guards.
• Cover electrical outlets
• Install safety latches and locks on cabinets and drawers.
• Stay away from accordion style safety gates, which can cause strangulation.
• Consider safety tassels for window blinds.
• Never place a crib below a window with blinds.
